Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting

Overview:

This 2 day training NPTC Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting course will provide adequate training on the safe use of Chainsaws including Maintenance, Health & Safety and the Risk Assessment process.

Following the training, delegates with attend an assessment lasting approx 2.5 — 3 hrs.   This is held on a separate date.

Max 4 delegates.

Course Content:

  • Current Health & Safety legislation
  • Risk assessment and emergency procedures
  • Personal Protective Equipment requirements    
  • Safety features of a chainsaw    
  • Common faults and defects      
  • Maintain guide bar and sharpen chain    
  • Routine operator maintenance  
  • Safe starting procedures of a chainsaw from both hot and cold
  • Crosscutting and stacking timber

Equipment required (Candidate)

  • Safety helmet (complying with EN 397)
  • Eye protection (mesh visor complying with EN 1731 or safety glasses to EN 166)
  • Hearing protection (complying with EN 352)
  • Gloves* with protective guarding on the back of the left hand (complying with EN 381-7)
  • Leg protection* incorporating chain clogging materials (complying with EN 381-5)
  • Protective boots* with good grip and protective guarding on the front vamp and instep(complying with EN 345-2)

* These items should carry the chainsaw logo

  • Chainsaw (maximum guide bar length 15”)
  • Fuel
  • Bio-degradable Oil
  • Toolkit
  • Personal first aid kit

  On site Delivery:

The course will start in the classroom on day one then move to a workshop. On day two, time will be spent logging up a tree: Please have available 24 x 2 metre x 30/45cm lengths of timber (or equivalent)
