Overview:
This Use of Chainsaw from a MEWP course aims to allow current chainsaw operators to gain the industry-wide and accepted NPTC accreditation with an independent assessment to confirm safety and competence in the use of chainsaw from a Mobile Elevated Work Platform — MEWP.

This qualification covers the ability to work safely, use a powered pole pruner, relevant health & safety legislation and industry good practice.

  • Relevant Health & Safety and industry good practice
  • Set up and operate a MEWP
  • Deal with emergency situations affecting operators working from a MEWP
  • Understand how to operate a chainsaw from a MEWP
  • Prepare a MEWP for transport

Course Requirements

  • Delegates must have a City & Guilds NPTC L2 Safe Use and Operation of Mobile Elevated Work Platforms or equivalent.
  • Award in Chainsaw Maintenance
  • Award in Cross-cutting
  • Award in Felling and Processing trees up to 380mm

You are required to provide your own Tools & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for this training course.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • Safety helmet (complying with EN 397)
  • Eye protection (mesh visor complying with EN 1731 or safety glasses to EN 166)
  • Hearing protection (complying with EN 352)
  • Gloves* with protective guarding on the back of the left hand (complying with EN 381-7)
  • Leg protection* incorporating chain clogging materials (complying with EN 381-5)
  • Protective boots* with good grip and protective guarding on the front vamp and instep (complying with EN 345-2)
  • *These items should carry the chainsaw logo
  • We also recommend you dress appropriately for weather conditions.

Tools/Equipment:

  • Top or rear handled chainsaw (maximum guide bar length 18”³)
    Fuel
    Bio-degradable Oil
    Toolkit
    Pulling rope
    Personal first aid kit
    Whistle
    Please supply the Make & Model of the MEWP being used for training.
    Please also notify us of where the MEWP is stored and how it will be transported to assessment site
    Please let us know if the MEWP is a hired or owned machine
    Please supply a copy of the LOLER certificate for the machine

Site Requirements:

Medium to large open grown trees with sufficient branches for cutting, at suitable level and vertical stem sections at a suitable height (minimum diameter of braches to be removed is 75mm)
