Course Outline

  • This one day Refresher course is an excellent way to update the PA1 and PA6 Unit 151 Licence
  • The course covers the Safe Use of Pesticide with a question/answer exercise.
  • Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides using Pedestrian Handheld Equipment (PA6 Unit 151) with a full calibration and application exercise.

Delegate, Equipment & PPE Requirements

PPE for each delegate - how we love our acronyms - this is the personal protective equipment required

  • Gaunlet Gloves - Min 300mm long - .5mm thick - Nitrile rubber
  • Boots - easy to clean and non absorbent
  • Coveralls - Min Type 5 or 6 - basic disposable type - use a few times
  • Face Shield - for handling the concentrate pesticide
  • Calculator for calibration calculation
  • A means to time seconds and minutes.

Course Content

  • Legislation - this is the legal bit unfortunately it has to be done
  • Personal safety and contamination - what needs to be worn
  • Pesticide & Container Storage - secure - ventilated - light - frost free - label
  • Record keeping - COSHH - Environmental - Stock - Treatment - LERAP - EAMU
  • Label information - it's all there easier than you think once you know how
  • Operator responsibilities - why the application of Pesticides is Certificated
  • Container and packaging disposal - both concentrate and dilute pesticides
  • Environmental and wildlife consideration - protecting all that's around us
  • Emergency procedures - in case things go wrong
  • Inspect applicator- Poor equipment = poor results
  • Legal requirements and safety regulations- this is the legal bit unfortunately it has to be done
  • Knowledge of nozzles- most important item for good pesticide application
  • Product labels- easier than you think once you know how
  • Fit suitable nozzle or restrictor - the most important part
  • Part fill applicator and check for satisfactory operation - Mixing procedure
  • Measure and calculate area to be treated - get this wrong and you have lost before you have started
  • Calibrate applicator - Is it applying what it should
  • Speeds and spray widths - area covered by the application avoid over dosing and off target
  • Calculate quantities required - this is what it's all about
  • Procedures for measuring, mixing and filling applicator with pesticide and water - check the label
  • Environmental risk assessment of the application site- taking care of the world that we live in
  • Protection of the environment - Minimise the risk
  • Minimising spray drift - focus on the target
  • Operating techniques for spot treatment - bring out the solid cone nozzle
  • Procedure for cleaning applicator - triple rinsing back onto site
  • Procedures for storing applicator - safely tucked away for next time.
